The following is a list of properties that the PVA office has classified as “abandoned”. Most of these properties are owned by deceased individuals, the property isn’t being maintained/used and the property taxes haven’t been paid in several years. Another indicating factor is the tax bills are returned each year.
If a property listed below is owned by a relative of yours, meaning you are a descendant, you may have an ownership stake in the property along with the other descendants. Taking legal title may require contacting an attorney to determine the correct procedure. If you’ve been taking care of or using a property for many years you may be eligible to take ownership through “adverse possession”. See this website for details. Speak to a local real estate attorney to determine if your situation qualifies.
