
The McCracken County PVA office is in need of a full time property inspector.
About the Job
Our inspectors are data collectors. They gather information about a property, enter that data into our database so the assessors can place a value on the property.
As an inspector, you will visit a number of properties each day. The purpose of these visits may be to follow-up on a city or county construction permit, to correct or verify our existing data or at a property owner’s request. During your visit you may be required to measure one or more structures and collect information about those structures. Training and tools will be provided.
Requirements
- Good speaking ability – Speaking to taxpayers in a professional and respectful manner is an important part of the job.
- Able to work by yourself – Inspecting properties requires that you be able to work by yourself while visiting someone else’s property.
- Ability to use measuring tools – You’ll be required to use a laser measuring device, a tape measure and/or a measuring wheel at properties to create sketches of structures.
- Physical ability – Inspecting a property typically means walking around a property with a variety of environments.
- Computer literate – Will be required to use a computer and tablet daily.
- Good driving record – Will be required to drive an office vehicle to properties. Must have a valid drivers license and good driving record.
- Understand maps and be familiar with McCracken County roads – You’ll be visiting a large number of properties in McCracken County. Knowing how to read a map or locate specific roads will be necessary.
- As an employee of the PVA office, if a resident of McCracken County, any real estate you own will be reviewed by the Board of Assessment Appeals each year.
A Well Qualified Individual Also Includes
- Basic understanding of construction – Inspecting a home or commercial structure requires a knowledge or understanding of building construction. Examples: Roof materials, roof types, types of siding, able to identify different types of utilities
Pay and Benefits
- This position is full time, starting March 1st, 2026
- 5 days per week, Monday – Friday, 8am to 4:30pm, 1 hour unpaid lunch
- Full time benefits (vacation, sick days, health insurance and retirement plan) are included.
- Pay starts at $18.31 per hour with a 5% raise after 6 months.
