Family Genealogy & Property Research

Frequent users of our property records are people doing research into their family tree or someone wanting the history of a specific property. While the deeds are located in the courthouse maintained by the county clerk our property specific information typically includes permit history, a photograph, sale and assessment history, structure size and year built as well as other info. At the PVA office we have property tax records and maps.

Between the deeds, property tax records and maps you can usually obtain the following type of information:

  • Owner name and mailing address
  • When it was purchased
  • How much was paid
  • Who the previous owner was
  • The property size and property lines
  • Structure info such as size, year built, characteristics, value
  • A photograph of the home or structure
  • Some deeds will specify if the property is to be held in survivorship and if the owner has a life estate

Also, the City and County GIS website has old aerial photographs that typically help to see what was present on the ground in the past. The website has Sanborn maps of Paducah from 1906 as well as aerial photos from 1938, 1950, 1952, 1964, 1981, 2001, 2008 and more recent years.

The tax records described above are located on our Qpublic website and are available free of charge. If you need assistance please call or email Bill Dunn at 270-444-1350 or Bill.Dunn@Ky.gov
